Claudio Ranieri named new Leicester manager

Leicester have confirmed Claudio Ranieri as their new manager.

The former Chelsea boss has been named as successor to Nigel Pearson, who was sacked last month despite leading City to Premier League safety last season.

Leicester also considered their former boss Martin O'Neill, but Sky Bet suspended betting on the new manager on Saturday after Ranieri was heavily backed.

Leicester City have sacked manager Nigel Pearson.

The news comes just over a month after Pearson successfully guided the Foxes out of the relegation zone at the end of last season.

Leicester's board issued the following statement, which cited the breakdown of the club's working relationship with Pearson as the reason for the move.

Leicester City want to hold talks with Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill over a potential return as the club's manager, according to Sky sources.

O'Neill previously managed the Foxes for five years, winning promotion to the Premier League in his first season in 1996, but it is understood the club are yet to approach the Football Association of Ireland with their interest.

Leicester are searching for a permanent successor to Nigel Pearson, who was sacked amid controversial circumstances earlier this month.
