One of the most beautiful films of this artist can mention "KAPEDANI"
The plot: an old man from a village travels (in time and space) to the city (Tirana) to see his son, who works and lives there. In the first dimension (time) there is the travel from the old system of the clan and Agrarian society to the "modern" socialist society. The movie contains a strong message about generation's conflicts. From the spatial dimension there is the travel from the village to the urban and modern city, a city build on the work and with the "strong" will of the "new" communist man, whose work is driven by the ideal of the socialist society under the rule of the communist party and Enver Hoxha. The movie is both about character, hence character centered, and about sending a strong comforting message to the old generation about the modernization of the society.

The main character is Xha Sulo (Uncle Sulo), the father who is traveling to meet his son. The Director makes a strong use of the dream to show the psyche of the main character as a representative of his generation. It starts with a very discomforting dream the Kapedan (the Captain) is having in a war time: he is loosing his command to a woman (looses his mustache, his manhood: the Freudian castration anxiety). It indicates that the old generation is fearing the feminization of the society which goes hand in hand with the modernization and the urbanization. So the movie is about the old man (Kapedani) trying to adapt to this new system, where the woman is to have a very important role in building this "new society".

The movie is very well made and it does succeed sending its message across. Of course the reality was back than totally a different thing. The socialist system didn't change the reality of the patriarchal system, it actually enforced that, making the man conscious about their hegemony. The women could not free themselves from the hierarchical patriarchal cage, they were actually milked twice, in the family, where they still had to perform their daily chores and from the system, where they had to work 8-10 hours a day to earn their living. That's so far the emancipation goes.
